Re-potting? 1/2 gallon to 2 or 3 gallon?

Hello all,

I am wondering about re-potting my plant when it becomes necessary.

I am trying to avoid a pot that is too big for the root structure since it will result in water siting at the bottom unused and adding to the time for the pots to really dry out..

So, I was thinking about going 1/2 gallon (the starting pot)--> 2 gallon --> 3 gallon

Or should I skip the 2 gallon pot?

Sorry for so many questions and thanks for any input!
 
If your final result is 3 gallon I would skip the 2. I would plant seeds in 16oz solo cups, go to 1 gallon pots after, and then on to 3 gallon for final. If you get fabric 1 and 3 gallon pots you can just plant the 1 gallon pot into the 3 gallon without removing it from the 1 gallon pots. The roots will grow right into the 3 gallon soil.
