Rapitest soil kit question

This is the kit containing capsules that measure n, p, k and ph and requires that you prepare soil mixed with distilled water, then place the mix in the appropriate chamber.

There’s one part of the instructions that aren’t clear. It says to mix 5 parts water to one part soil, mix it up and let it settle for 30 minutes to 24 hours. Then fill the chamber “with the solution from the soil sample”.

They don’t say though if you’re supposed to take water from the top of the solution, or go deep and draw up mostly soil,
Or re-agitate the mix so you get a bit of soil as well as water.

I’ve used this kit several times and have been taking the water from the top of the solution, with only minimal amounts of soil. That seems correct from reading the instructions but I consistently get very low readings on all parameters. So, maybe I should be stirring it up first.

Will appreciate your tips on this, thanks.

Hi Ted - the 'solution' would be the liquid only, the idea being that whatever is in the soil will leach into the water
The ones I have tried are a bit hit and miss so I wouldn't take it as Gospel, more of an indication
