Almost 9,900 marijuana plants, thousands of dollars and more than 33 guns were seized by law enforcement officers Wednesday after serving search warrants on two locations shortly after noon.
Deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Fortuna police officers and agents from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force, FBI and Federal Drug Enforcement Administration served warrants at a location in the Salmon Creek area of Southern Humboldt, as well as a residence in Fortuna on Osprey Terrace Lane, a Sheriff’s Office news release stated.
Between the two locations, both owned by Derrick James Cotter, 30, officers confiscated almost 9,900 marijuana plants, almost $6,000, an all-terrain vehicle being used to assist the marijuana growing operation, 2.5 pounds of processed marijuana and 35 guns.
Shortly after the warrants were served, officers located Derrick and Sonya Cotter and arrested them on suspicion of cultivation and possession for sale of marijuana. Officers also seized Derrick’s 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck and froze the Cotters’ bank accounts for possible asset seizure, the release stated.
