Quitting in Support?

HalfPint

My boyfriend is in the Army and has to stop smoking due to a new job.

He has advised me that I also need to quit to "support" him in his habit.

Has anyone else had to do this?

Also! Anyone quit and realized that they are NEVER hungry? Now, Ive been close to a daily smoker for 4+ years. Ive never had a drug test or a reason to stop tokin' so this is all new to me!

any support would be greatly appreciated!

Wait a minute?
Your bf had to quit, not you.

Did he really 'advise' you to quit too. Or just ask you to quit? Either way, it's up to you to quit for your own reasons.

Put it another way. Would you ask your bf to quit something that he likes to do and has been doing it for a long time just because you had to stop doing it?

yeah i agree with chicagojoe, thats not right.. you should not have to stop. i've had a problem like this, but its a suprise its a guy pulling it on a girl and not the other way around...

I could understand his point if we were dealing with drugs, but this is pot not something hardcore. He should be able to have some discipline and stop smoking when nessessary.

Oh and about being hungry. I've gone from smoking everyday to being clean for months and back again and it hasn't affected how much I eat. However I don't get the munchies when sober lol. Something however that DOES greatly affect my hunger is stress. I can hardly stomach 2eggs if I'm really stressed. But when I'm good and everything is going ok for me I'll eat up half a pizza easy.
I've learned that stress affects both my hunger and sleeping habits.

He's been heard that testing is so good today,if you live with someone who smokes weed in the house, you'll test positive, even if you don't partake. Which,IMO, is a load of horse shit.

If it's a security clearance thing,he's sweating the polygraph and drug testing that comes with it. I'd say he's afraid if one doesn't get him the other will.

I quit smoking weed for job reasons in the mid 80's. I dropped 20 pounds in just over two months after quitting. After you lose the urge for those late night munchie runs, the pounds drop off.

"advised" sounds kinda close to giving an order... which he might be used to doing, but also needs to understand he can't do it with you.

You should say he can ask you to quit, but he also must respect your decision as it's your body... unless his job is paying your way through college or something. Then he might have a point.

If he doesn't get high, then he does not need to worry about drug tests or polygraphs. Hell, break up the day he goes for the polygraph so he can honestly say he dumped you since you smoke weed. You can always make up later...

yeah I gotta agree with obx, you shouldn't have to quit because of his situation. There is no way he can test positive if you smoke in the house. The only way it is even remotely possible is if you blow every hit into his face, and even then the amount of THC in his system will be so low the test might not even pick it up.

This is something I just don't understand. You want to give your time and resources to a power who tells you that you can't smoke something you want to smoke, that is completely harmless.

I would never serve any country that outlaws cannabis users, or anything else I believe in for that matter. It's just too hypocritical for me.

I'm not judging you or your boyfriend, just throwing my opinion out there and thinking out loud

Half pint, If he asked you to quite smoking cigarretts I'd say great idea back him up but if he means you should stop getting high well that would be up to you alone !!:peace:

I have quit in the past to clean my system for a job related piss test. It kind of sucked, but needed to be done. My wife smoked the whole time, just not around me because she knew it would temp me. the worst part of the deal was when we went to a party where almost everyone smokes and the joints and bongs were passed freely all night.

Everyone who knew me was really impressed because I was always such a heavy smoker. It can be done, but I would never ask someone else to quit to support me.
