Questions about carbon filter

I have read a lot of the diy carbon filters. I already have an exhaust fan and I also already have some of the carbon filter made by Honeywell from walmart. the people I see using this stuff, wrap their carbon around some sort of mesh of their choise. would it be ok for me to just wrap the carbon directly onto the fans intake or exhaust port? kinda like a cap of carbon.

As long as you don't create too much back pressure and cause your fan to fail or over heat and burn down your house/room.DIY carbon filters must be thought out to avoid that problem and to achieve superior performance.I suggest that you should read a tutorial on building one so you have a good starting point.Hope this helps
