Question About Odor

Grow Hard

Currently i have 3 female plants in the last 2 weeks of flowering in my closet. They are strong as hell, I have one of those DIY Ona Filters, it works alright, but i was wondering if my neighbors would be able to smell the plants through the walls, because im pretty sure on the other side of my closet wall is their closet, hoping someone has some experience with this.

By the way, i had the Ona filter plugged into my timer so it goes off at night for 4 hours, this morning the timer kicked back on at 7 and i left to go to the store and the way my apartment building is setup is you go into a main building and then there are 4 apartment doors inside, 2 are upstairs and 2 are downstairs, mine is on the top. but anyways when i came back from the store i walked into the main building and it had a hint of chronic in the air, but the inside of the apartment was good because the filter had been running inside, so im hoping it was just coming out through the front door and it just lingered inside the building. but im for sure gonna run the filter on its own socket 24/7. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if growing in an area with high traffic, its best to spend the money on a good quality carbon filter.

as long as there are no holes in your closet wall, you shouldnt have an issue. BUT i wouldnt risk it bud.

a few hundred on a good filter, and a good fan that should last you a couple years... IMO is a great investment..

if thats too pricy for you... use ONA, with a strain that has minimal stink. like Northern lights for example... or "bud lite"

nibec got it. You need some high quality carbon filter to clean up the air. There should be no hint of odor for growing outside your grow room(s). Depends on your space you may need a 4in-8in exhaust fan with the right carbon filter size. Ona products does not get rid of odors completely and you will end up wasting more cash in the long run. Masking odors can never win over trapping odors.

Apartments arent sealed or insulated very well, even if their new. I wouldnt take the chance of having any smell @ all. If you can smell it, I'm thinking your neighbors can too.

Before I bought my house I lived in so called luxury apartments. (this went for all the apartments I lived in)If someone was cooking something, you could smell it in your apartment. If the lady upstairs was screaming like a cat in heat @ 1am, you could here it, along with the bed creaking. There is no privacy in apartment buildings.

Even if the wall is solid, air can escape around switchplates and outlets. Any penetration in the wall is an opportunity for the odor to escape into the other apartment.

Another thing that is great is ozone generators...

Will a cheap 15 Watt Ozone generator be of any good?

I found one that sells for 30 bucks and produces 1 gram O3 per hour. Would need something to mask the smell of 2 female plants.

As far as I know they shouldn't stink to bad when they flower (Caramello - a Lavender cross + Spicy White Devil - a Jack Herer & Blueberry cross)

Don't see a way to fit a carbon filter in my wall cabinet (appartment is just rented, so I can not make any large holes in the walls.

Other Ozon generators sell for way above my budget as far as I see.

where did you find this generator at? That is right within my budget. Though I know the carbon filters everyone is talking about would be better. I am a renter like you and can't put holes in the walls. But since I am going to be moving soon, I know I will need this. Never had to worry about smell where I am now since my neighbor also medicates.

Medicating neighbors, that would be sweet :) But in my case they are students that will most likely recognice the smell :) And I would like to avoid unwanted visitors. Probably not if they are student pothead girls, but here at least my girlfriend would mind I guess :)

I found it on Ebay. Just search internationally for "ozone generator" Though it ships from Asia ... you might risk issues with customs, but I think you'll be fine. There are more applications then just masking MJ's smell. The vendor sells it for desinfection and odor neutralisation of living rooms.
Made good experiance with orders from Asia via Ebay in the past.

In case you order before I do, please report how that works.
I was planing on ordering two units. I will hang them high in the grow room and will have a rotating vent circulate some fresh air around them. I may get a third for my living room ...

I will be putting it on my wishlist but will prolly try to get it in a few months. I am glad my neighbor isn't a college kid. You may prolly have yours before mine so let me know how it works...lol

:) I will let you know. I guess I'll order mine in a few weeks.

Have so much stuff on my wish list currently :) For instance I found a USB temperature data collector, which records your grow room temperature second by second and saves it in a pc database which costs approx. 9 bucks and an USB mug warmer, I'm going to use to heat the mug I soak my seeds in for germination. Still looking for a cheap USB soil ph recorder. Would make a nice tracking device.

I think I will buy this USB temperature recorder now :) Will help me figure out how much the temp drops during ventilation times, and during dark period, and if I should run my vent during dark period, or if temp would drop too deep etc ... :)

I would not recommend ozone generator as it may cause health complications in people.

The grow room need a constant supply of fresh and cool air by removing it with exhaust system. When the carbon filter is part of that it helps remove odor while providing the essential (fresh and cool air from outside the grow room) to your plants to sustain growth and health. The carbon filter combo will be more effective and cost less than the ozone generator in the long run.

Too bad about the health issues, I just read that on wikipedia. You need ventilation when using ozon units, so there would be no point not to run a carbon filter if one already installs a vent system ... I will check if I'll have the chance to install a carbon filter, though renting the appartment. Until then I grow other "stinking" plants to mask the smell. Currently I'm growing Basil, Salvia and Tomatos in the same grow room. Need to find something that smells realy strong and does not need too much light. I grow those in passive light.
