Helena - Medical marijuana cards in Montana just got a lot cheaper.
The state health department has reduced the fee to obtain or renew a medical marijuana card from $75 to $5.
The changes went into effect on Saturday, according to the health department website.
This comes in advance of a major deadline. Beginning Aug. 31, Montana medical marijuana caregivers will be limited to three patients. Providers say the restriction would shut them down.
However, voters could change regulations in November. One proposed initiative lifts the three patient restriction, another repeals the medical marijuana law.
There are just over 13,000 medical marijuana patients in Montana.
Signatures are being processed for initiatives through Friday, July 15.
