MUMM is a registered, non-profit organization, advocating and lobbying for the rights of consumers, distributors and producers of medical cannabis, while endeavouring to educate others about the relative safety of medical cannabis.
July 1st MUMM will be protesting the loss of patient and designated grower production licenses in 2014. Patients will once again be left to suffer when many will no longer be able to afford their medicine. Patients will live in increasing stress as Health Canada forge ahead with pulling all grow permits with the exception of a few national commercial producers.

July 1st is the 11th anniversary of the adoption of the court ordered Medical Marijuana Access Regulations. Since 2001 the MMAR have proven to be unconstitutional in several courts. Health Canada has received many court orders to redraft the MMAR to address the programs shortcomings.
MUMM will be launching a petition in protest of the proposed changes announced in 2011 that Heath Canada will phase out personal (PPL) and designated production licenses (DPL) for exemption holders by 2014.
Under the proposed regulations several licensed production facilities will be appointed to become the sole medication providers for all licensed patients.
"Many exemption holders are disabled and live on a low, fixed income, often well below the poverty line and yet no provisions have been made to guarantee affordable prices or medical coverage so that patients can obtain the medical cannabis so desperately needed to cope with symptoms of a myriad of diseases and conditions," said Debbie Stultz-Giffin, chair of MUMM.
There is no provincial health coverage to assist with the cost of medical cannabis in Canada. Only 2 exemption holders in NS ever received provincial coverage before the Dexter government disallowed medical cannabis to be considered a special need for low income Nova Scotians last year.
"Retaining the right to grow our own medicine, or having someone grow it for us at no/minimal cost, is the only affordable feasible option for most patients," stated Stultz-Giffin.
Bill C-10 becomes law on Nov. 6th. Patients, unable to afford licensed production facility prices and decide to continue to grow their own medicine by cultivating more than 5 cannabis plants will be subject to prosecution and incarceration if they are not following the MMAP regulations.
The petition requests the House of Commons mandate Health Canada to leave the current PPL and DPL provisions in place as well as to create licensed production facilities and patient led cooperatives.
