Sturgeon Falls' favourite marijuana minister is back behind bars and facing drug production charges after police seized more than 14 pounds of marijuana Tuesday.
As a result of a month-long investigation, West Nipissing police executed a warrant at two Sturgeon Falls properties and seized the marijuana, drug paraphernalia and cash, said a news release.
Mike Ethier, 51, is charged with drug production, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and drug possession.
Ethier is a longtime advocate to legalize the weed and is a minister with a marijuana advocacy group, the Church of the Universe.
He was a fringe candidate in the 2003 municipal election and ran his campaign from behind bars at the North Bay Jail facing other marijuana charges.
He has tried twice to run for mayor of West Nipissing. He finished in last place on both tries.
