The Cannabis Career Institute in California is ready to teach anyone willing to pay for a course on how to start and maintain a successful medical marijuana business in Rhode Island.
Members of the institute said with the state's high unemployment rate, there may be room for new entrepreneurs in the medical marijuana field.
"Rhode Island desperately needs money right now," said John Veit of the Cannabis Career Institute.
The course, which costs $249, is called "Take control of your financial future." Topics covered include accounting, legal issues, and distribution principles for a medical marijuana business.
Similar courses have run in other states where medical marijuana has been legalized.
"You'll get a broad overview of the marijuana business, then it will get specific, how to grow, set up the patient network. You can learn how to make edibles. You can learn how to make concentrates. All the aspects of the marijuana business will be covered," Veit said.
The class runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is being held at the Radisson Providence Airport Hotel in Warwick on Saturday.
The institute said 20 participants are enrolled.
