Calgary police made the biggest pot bust of the year yesterday,
netting more than $500,000 worth of marijuana.

Police discovered the major grow operation at 16 Martha's Haven Green
N.E., where they seized 391 plants, as well as some drug equipment.
"It's a substantial bust -- the best of the year," said Det. Gord
Renke of the police drug unit's "Green Team."

Cops estimate the seizure is worth $547,000.

It comes on the heels of several other pot busts last month.
Police found a cannabis grow operation worth almost $80,000 at 7804 10
St. N.W. on Wednesday.

On Jan. 24, the drug unit executed a search warrant at 76 Sunmeadows
Court S.E., where they seized 55 pot plants with a street value of
$77,000.

Another $81,000 worth of marijuana was found at a home in the 200
block of Mount Lorette Close S.E. on Jan. 11.
Renke said the string of busts sends a strong message to drug
traffickers.

"They're in a paranoid business, and it makes them even more paranoid
when they hear about busts," he said, adding charges are pending from
yesterday's seizure.
