Police raided four large marijuana-growing operations in Eugene and West Linn this week that were tied to a registered medical marijuana grower whose crop far exceeded legal limits.
Police on Monday busted three growing operations in Eugene and one in West Linn, where they questioned a 33-year-old man who said he produced about 13 pounds of usable marijuana every month, selling it for $3,200 per pound.
The man, whose name was not released, is registered as a legal grower for one patient under the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program. He is permitted to possess only six mature marijuana plants, 18 seedlings, and 1 1/2 pounds of usable marijuana.
Police did not arrest the man, but said charges were pending.
Lt. Gregg Hastings, Oregon State Police spokesman, said members of OSP's Drug Enforcement Section, the Lane County Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Lane County Sheriff's Office served search warrants on three adjacent vacant houses on Wilkes Drive in North Eugene. The houses were used solely to grow marijuana.
Hastings said the investigation then led police to a fourth location in West Linn.
In all, police seized 1,127 marijuana plants, two firearms and a large amount of growing equipment in Eugene. In West Linn, detectives seized 149 marijuana plants and a firearm.
