A drug bust at a residence in Boscawen on Monday night yielded roughly two pounds of marijuana and nearly $20,000 in cash, the police said.

Peter Benoit, 48, had been selling 10 to 15 pounds of the drug each week out of his Gage Street home, according to Boscawen Police Chief David Croft.

Benoit has been charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, Croft said. He was arraigned yesterday and is being held on $5,000 bail.

"We certainly know that he was dealing at his residence," Croft said.

Richard Bradley, 52, of Groveton, was also arrested during the bust at Benoit's house. He was charged with possession of a controlled drug and is being held on $1,000 bail, Croft said.

The police found $7,000 cash and an undetermined amount of marijuana, including some stashed in a fake 7-Up can and a duffel bag belonging to Bradley.

The rest of the bust's yield came from Benoit's house, the police said. The evidence seized there includes a brick of marijuana as well as smaller quantities that Croft said were found around the house. Two spice jars, one labeled parsley and another seasoned salt, were full of the drug. Some of the money was found near a hunk of deer meat on the counter, Croft said.

Croft has heard numerous complaints about traffic and noise near Benoit's house. Those sparked the investigation. Two months ago, the Boscawen police called the Concord Police Department, which helped carry out the investigation.

"It's a very safe assumption that somebody is moving that quantity of drugs, they're not just selling in Boscawen or to Boscawen people," Croft said.
