UK - A Cannabis farm has been smashed by police investigating a serious road accident.
Officers had been in Beach Road, South Shields, on February 3 after a lollipop lady was knocked down.
And it was during the course of their door-to-door inquiries, cops caught a whiff of what they believed to be cannabis coming from one of the properties.
A raid on the empty home, believed to be rented, uncovered a haul of 300 cannabis plants with a street value of around £30,000.
Neighbourhood Inspector Peter Sutton today told the Gazette the search is still on for the crooks behind the massive find.
He said: "The plants were uncovered during the officer's inquiries into the accident.
"No one, as yet, has been arrested in connection with the find and inquiries are on-going." The haul was discovered by cops probing the accident which left lollipop lady, known locally as Eleanor Harman, fighting for her life at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.
The 58-year-old suffered serious head injuries after she was hit by a Peugeot 307 while on patrol in Beach Road, South Shields.
She had been providing a tea-time crossing for pupils at nearby Marine Park Primary School in Hatfield Square, when the accident happened on February 2.
No children were on the road at the time when she was hit.
Police said she is now "recovering well" and is currently in a stable condition.
