Planting seed & germination

hello guys, after finishing my setup i am ready for my first grow !!! I planted a pyramid seeds northern lights straight into biocanna soil at about 1cm depth. Afterwards i i water it just enough to be moist so it can sprout. my problem is humidity which is kept at about 45% because i have to use a heater to keep the temperature at 20 degrees celsius more or less. So, does it have any chance of sprouting, if yes when should i expect it to and when should i consider planting a new one? Is a week enough?
thx guys

I think your Rh is fine - don’t see a problem there. Resist any urges to water more. Personally I’d raise the heat to about 25 but 20 works too. If nothing comes up in a week - there’s still a chance but it’s getting small.

As Weaselcracker said, that should be fine. They can take a while sometimes. Did you soak the seed first or go straight into the soil? Also how deep did you plant it? If you're worried about humidity you can always cut the bottom off a water bottle and use it as a humidity dome until the seedling comes up.

Edit: Sorry just realised you answered my questions in your original post. Morning here and I have a cold :laughtwo:

Resist any urges to water more
i watered again today, one shot of water total just to keep the soil moist.
Personally I’d raise the heat to about 25
my problem is that by raising the heat i lower RH to 35% or below, atm temp is 18c and Rh 35%.
Did you soak the seed first
No, i just used my finger to make a hole at about my nails depth and planted it. I saw it Mrcanucks channel on utube and though to give it a try, since it is the least "involved" way.
Does the paper towel method also help to see which seeds are good and are able to sprout?
cut the bottom off a water bottle and use it as a humidity dome
i have used a bowl allready that keeps the moisture inside. there is condensation going on. Do you think that i could go for higher temp without worrying too much about Rh in the tent? my last solution is to get a humidifier, but i just dont want to spend any more money at this point.

Ps. We are going through a very cold and dry period for the place that i live at. Normally its humid and not cold during the winter while getting progressively hotter by march. Perfect weed growing environment xD march-late october. I m sure than in a month or so i wont have any of these problems!!!

Your RH in the immediate area of the seed will continue to be around 100%, even without a dome over top.

I would raise the temps because seeds don’t like sitting in cold wet ground, and nice warm temps are the best conditions to sprout seeds in.

Personally I’d also lose the dome, because I find that enclosed spaces cause things to stagnate and rot faster.

Sorry what? I’m saying (said) that the humidity in the wet ground where your seed currently is -will be 100%. Your seed doesn’t care about what humidity is in the rest of the room right now.

Anyway plants will grow perfectly fine in low humidity. Cross that bridge later. Getting the seed to sprout and survive the first week or two is far more important at this point.

Edit. Just saw the last part of your post. Don’t worry about the RH very much. Don’t worry about it right now.

I don’t believe that having 35% Rh is a big issue for your veg plants. You should be fine. But I do know that cold stagnant conditions are the #1 killer of seedlings.

Think about investing in a heat mat, for germinating seeds. much better then heating the whole room . your pots are probably a lot cooler than the air temperature in the room, specially if sitting on a cold surface. Bottom heat also helps when cloning :passitleft:

thats what i am trying to avoid, but i was reading that i need something like 80/90% rh. i can raise the temp without a problem, but i drop in humidity. So to recap, 25C withbelow 40% Rh, is way better than 18C with <40% Rh?
right :D???

my air heater is at the same height as my pot is, facing behind it so it doesnt dry the soil out completely. Inside the grow tent that is, its to small to heat the whole room.

As weasel said> the seed is at high humidity until it comes out of the ground. The soil, around seed gives off enough humidity until it starts getting bigger
Worry about the temperature until the seedling comes up then worry about rh
once the seedling is up you can slowly lower the RH and it will still thrive

Hey I found a great way just this time with my WWxBB seeds. I took the seeds and put them in a shot glass put this shot glass on top of my LED light Mars Hydro 3000 it does not get that hot as I have the drivers mounted outside of the tent. I considered myself a seed murderer up to this point. The next day I had a bunch of cracked seeds. I took a plate, 2 paper towels, and a 3 litter ziplock bag put that together and BAM 2 days later I planted them in substrate. All 6 I culled down to 4 and here we are.

my seedling just popped yesterday !!!
i figured out the right temp and humidity, currently sitting at 23C and 55% Rh. My next step is proper watering. As of now i am watering it with 4 shots of every 12hours, roughly 120ml each time. Should i be watering more or less? Also how close should my led be to the plant, is it too early to move the light closer? 70cm distance atm.
Thx guys and wish me luck !!!

I would use a spray bottle to water. Your newborn will not have the roots to uptake water yet. I use a dome for the first 10 days or so. See the dome I use. They are a good 8 inches tall or so. It keeps the humidity high so no real need to water, Just use a spray bottle.

nice, i have to mention that i am watering filtered water from an RO system. Do i need to add cal mag, or can i get by without it? i also use BIOCANNA Bio Terra Plus for organic cultivation | CANNA CANADA soil that supposedly has all the plants nutrient needs covered.
My plan for feeding is to start feeding just 1ml/liter of biobizz veg after week two and 2ml/liter of biobizz bloom when i hit the flowering period maybe working up to 4ml. what do you guys think?

So the soil is fertilized for the first 1-2 weeks the poster above posted the photo to what I was going to suggest. You have to “tent” them I would use bottles cut off. It will be around 90% in side there. So if you use the top of the bottle you can vent or close. Use clear bottles. The light should be 20cm from the “canopy” now so the tops of your seedlings.
