Soil grow. My tap water is 6.0, should I check ph again after adding nuets to water? Problem is after I add nuets to my water bucket the ph is 8.0, I use ph down but the water color in the testing tube doesnt change? Its been a long day, what am I doing wrong?

(this is sooo embarressing) I realized this morning I was doing all my ph testing in the testing vial, like adding ph down in the vial and checking instead of adding it to the water and checking , shheeesh, its been a rough couple days, 3 hrs sleep in 72 hours (yeah, thats the ticket).
I am using Miracle Grow soil for now but changing soon because I heard so much bad about MG and using FloraNova Grow & Bloom.
