Ph testers

Most garden centres/ some DIY stores sell PH/moisture probes.

But will go faulty if left in soil/compost for prolonged periods of time... so its best to remove the probe & clean it down after every use to keep it in good working order :thumb:

Its very difficult to find electronic/digital PH probes testers for soil tho... however i know Blue Lab do a model but its finding some one who sells it which is the tricky bit & of course the cost of the item !

Soil/compost is reasonable self buffering in nature & returns to ambient PH level of growing medium with in several hours or so.

So ultimately all you need is a soil/compost which has a buffered PH value of between PH 6 & 7 to effectively grow MJ well & not the correct PH of the nutrient solution as the soil/compost will self buffer over time.

All this can be observed with a cheap soil/compost PH probe & any short term swings in PH of soil/compost after watering with nutrients will return to normal with in a matter of several hours... these mild PH swings hardly pose a threat to growing !

As for hydroponics the correct PH of reserva tank or nutrient feed is the most important as this is your growing medium of choice being the water for such systems as DWC, NFT or inert growing medium suchs perlite or hydroton clay pebbles etc.

Any large swings in PH may cause nutrient lock outs etc leading to short term ill health of plants inless adjusted ASAP hence daily monitoring maybe required for such systems or intill the time your experience gains to leave em for an extra day or so before checking.
