Ph keeps dropping in my aeroponic system?

Hello.

I make own aeroponic bucket system.

I keep have problems with ph dropping. It happens after 1-3 days after flush. I have been disinfected the whole system and start with new clones. After 24 hour in the system the ph start to drop again!?

The temperature of water is 18-20 degrease
Rootzone temp 20-21 degrease
I use reverse osmosis water filter to treat water
I use a uv sterilizer 24 w
I add hydroperoxide (around 75 ml 12% for 100 liter)
Tank size 500 liter
0.2 mm mist nozzles
120 liter pr min airpump for tank

The roots of the clones are plearly white. I will add pictures of the system.

Can anybody tell me what im doing wrong here!?

As the salts fall out of your nutrients the ph will naturally drop.
It is unavoidable.
You may have to keep adjusting it unfortunately.
Fantastic set up my friend.

When I started growing two years ago, I stumbled across what I refer to as "The Wonder Chart", below, and I kept dropping my EC to try to get pH from dropping. It was a fool's errand. In the grows that I've done since the, I don't recall pH not dropping for a few days after I put out a new res.

Wonder Chart.png

Dropping pH can be a symptom of an issue in your hydro set up but unless you have organic matter in your res/system, all it indicates to me is that the chemicals in the new res are being exchanged in a manner so as to cause a pH drop.

What is unusual about my grow is that I grow very few plants (one at a time now), I use a reservoir that holds 28 gallons, and I feed my plants well with the goal of getting them to the light saturation point as quickly as possible.

I just swapped the res for my current grow on 3/29/23. My journal entries from yesterday and today are show below. I haven't checked the historical data but I suspect that it's done dropping.

1680392193984.png

This data is from a Bugbee paper on nutrient management for hydro systems. Absorption Rate #1 chemicals can be taken up with 12 hours of a new res, Rate 2 are a few days, Rate 3 are taken up slightly more slowly than water.

1680392210366.png

Per below, pH drops when the positively charged chemicals (ammonium, potassium, etc.) move into the plant and H3O is exuded by the plant.

Just noticed something - if you've got any metal other than stainless (or gold, I'd assume) coming in contact with nutrient solution, you may want to rethink things.

One of the mods on a website that's dedicated to auto flowers (I'm assuming it's against the rules to provide the URL), had brass fittings in the plumbing for his holding tank. The interaction with the nute solution slowly poisoned his plants.

I'll see if I can find the details…

This was the fitting that caused the issue:

Thanks for your answer.

I noticed that the ph dropped by about 0.1 ph in 5 hours. So the ph drops relatively slowly. I have checked the system for any metals in the system and it is only mister nozzles that are made of stainless steel. The rest is plastic.

I talk with a Guy that recommends me to use calcium carbonate to help stabilize ph in reservoir. Does it make sense for you?

I only added:
Grow a
Grow b
Hydroperoxide

Nothing more. Im alittle new on using reverse osmosis water filter system. Can it have anything to do with that? :)

Thanks :) Maybe it just me, but before when I grow in Denmark I didnt use reverse osmosis water. I do now. I was told that its important to add calcium carbonate to the reservoir to help stabilize the ph. Does this make sense for you?
The only thing I added to the nutriens solution is:
Grow a
Grow b
Hydroperoxide

Nothing more. Im not sure if calcium carbonate is needed bc of reverse osmosis treatment!?

Normaly when I grow in Denmark, the ph would always rise slowly. Now it drops slowly after I put a few clones in the system

Thanks for your answer.
You're very welcome. My "chasing pH" episode was a complete waste of time and energy and I hate to see someone make the same mistake I did.

Good to hear. "slowly" is the key word.

"0.1 pH in 5 hours" - yup, that's falling slowly. Let's see how the trend line goes.

I checked my res (well, I looked on my Wyze app that runs the web cam that is pointed at my Bluelab :) ) and it's at 5.8 still. So about three days and it should be stable now.

I have checked the system for any metals in the system and it is only mister nozzles that are made of stainless steel. The rest is plastic.
Good to hear. It's a great looking set up!

"stabilize pH" - I do not know. I use products raise and lower pH but I have no particular knowledge about to stabilize a res. As I understand it, commercial fertilizers will stabilize pH I a res but I'm not familiar with the mechanism.

There are growers here who have a wealth of knowledge in that area. I'm sure someone will have an answer for you.

Just the opposite. Using RO water means that you're providing nothing but H2O to your plants. As long as the RO using is functioning correctly, using RO is a good way to remove a variable from the growing equation.

When the system removes impurities from your water, it also removes the Mg and Ca. Check that your nutrients are for use with RO water. If that's the case, they will have enough Mg and Ca to replace what's been removed. On the other hand, if you're using nutrients that are designed for regular tap water, they won't have as much/any Mg and Ca so you might run into issue.

The ph started to change after 3 days abd now the ph slowly raising like it should.

The bad thing is i think my newly transplanted clones not growing in my aeroponic system!?

I dont see any new root development ore any sign of new green growth.

Ph 6.0
Ec 0.5
Water temp 18 degrease
Misting frequency 3 min every 12 min. I just lower it to 10 sec every 10 min. Can anybody help here?

I had a plastic cup over every transplanted clones but I just remove it. I look like my clones slowly die.

Possibly reducing the amount of water they receive might force them to search it out producing roots.
If they have too much they get lazy and just suck it up instead of producing roots.
Do you use clonex or anything?
Just 2 cents.

Yes I just did today. Before they got 3 min on abd 10 min off. I change it to 5 sec on and 10 min off. I use 0.2 mm mist nozzle. Do you know the right misting frequency for newly transplanted clones?

I use clonex rooting gel when I made my clones 3 weeks ago. Now I just use grow a / b and hydroperoxide.
I add pictures to give you a feeling of how it looks.

I thought you were in an aero cloner. :Namaste:
What is your light cycle?
And your intensity?
Little ones like that don't like a lot of strong LED light.
I found a t5 above my sprayer box worked best.
I dipped them in a combo of root gel and powder mixed into a paste.
Wait a couple hrs then turn on sprayer.
I also put clonex and Superthrive in the sprayer.
I ran 14 on 10 off for the first couple days.
I quit using it though, I couldn't keep liquid temps in range.
Don't know if that helps.
But that's what worked for me.
@H20gro hey :ciao: Amigo do you have any suggestions that might help us here?
Or anyone else have a suggestion ?

Those DOS Life tanks are they from Bangkok?
I just tried to see if I could get one.

Thank mate. I just need to see som green healphy growth.. Im not sure if DOS life is made in Thailand but you can order the tank on lazada (shopping app in Thailand)

Are you out that way?
@NickHardy is there.
Have you talked to him?
Not a hydro guy but clever nonetheless. :ciao: Hey Nick. Hehe

Light 18 h on, 6 h off.
Intisity 5000-7000 lux.
All clones have roots coming out of the rockwool. They been in a propagator for 3 weeks and I put them in the aeroponic system 5 days ago. I dont see roots grow, ore new green leafs. One of them looks like its about to die.

gorgeous set up. you couldn't pay me to run all that gear now that i've abandoned active hydro.
the clone doesn't look very well established. i'd run the system as if cloning at this point.

Nothing more. Im a little new on using reverse osmosis water filter system. Can it have anything to do with that?

you'll need to run cal-mag for sure. it shouldn't be having much of an effect on something that small but i'd do it from the get go.

lets see the plants. so far all i've seen is one toughed up clone and a bunch of gear.

Thanks very much.

I agree my clones looks in bad condition. I had the girls in a propagator with dome for 3 week. They been eating them self up to much, so I think I can improve my cloning technic (next time i use aeroponic cloner and no rockwool) I been growing for 20 years but I took a long break for 5 years. I still know how to make a good growsystem but its hard to keep up with all the important details and do everything after the book.

this right here. you'll have zero trouble if starting from an areo-cloner. the roots need to be fairly long and flowing out of the cups.

it shows. love the organization too.

i took a break for a year, every time i do it takes a whole scary grow to get things working again. i worked in a larger med grow with other folk for close to ten yrs. when i had to do my own small grow again it was like i'd never seen the plant.
