As lawmakers in Harrisburg debate the legalization of medical marijuana, doctors and parents who lost their children to diseases and illnesses are weighing in on the drug.

Sean Stone lost his son Jax at the age of 9 to DIPG, a deadly cancer in the brain stem. There's no treatment for the disease, and radiation and chemo only gave him more time. Stone says medical marijuana could have prolonged Jax's life and that the option should have been on the table for their family.

Federal regulations have blocked more extensive research from being done. Even if medical marijuana becomes legal in Pennsylvania, doctors say the federal schedule won't change.
Some of the side effects doctors are concerned about with medical marijuana are the long term psychological and neurological effects. They are also concerned about using a vehicle under the influence.
