Governor Tom Wolf will meet with advocates and encourage lawmakers to pass a bill legalizing medical marijuana in Pennsylvania. That meeting will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Governor's Reception Room of the State Capitol.
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed several amendments Monday to change the original 69-page bill the Pennsylvania Senate passed with a vote of 40-to-7 last May.
Dauphin County Rep. Ron Marsico's amendment puts a five percent tax on growers and processors who sell marijuana to dispensaries. That amendment passed with a 152-to-38 vote.
The Medical Cannabis Act would create a state board to license growers, dispensers, and processors.
Patients would need a written certification from a doctor or nurse confirming they have one of the qualifying medical conditions. Those conditions include cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, AIDS, glaucoma, diabetes, chronic pain, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
York County Representative Kevin Schreiber believes the bill could pass later this week or early next week if both sides continue going through the amendments.
