CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet — The leadership of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera vehemently opposed the frequent conduct of the ceremonial burning of millions of pesos worth of seized marijuana plants since it is in direct violation of the provisions of the Clean Air Act and contributory to the worsening air quality in the region.
Instead, Sr. Supt. Roberto Quinto Soriano, PRO-COR chief of staff and officer-in-charge of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), strongly recommended that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the Cordillera must resort to the composting of the seized marijuana plants and bricks to prevent the further pollution of the air that people breathe.
By doing so, the police official pointed out that composting the confiscated marijuana plants and bricks will result to the generation of compost fertilizer that could be used in facilitating the growth of ornamental plants around the camp which will further help in the beautification campaign.
At the same time, Soriano explained that PDEA officials in the Cordillera must inform the different special drugs court in the region on the alternative way of destructing the confiscated drugs aside from burning so that the judges will be properly guided for the benefit of preserving and protecting the state of the environment in the different parts of the region in the coming days.
