With New York's medical marijuana program not planned to start until next year, parents of children with debilitating neurological conditions want Gov. Andrew Cuomo and lawmakers to make the drug available now for those with the greatest need.

Several parents and their children gathered at the Capitol Tuesday to encourage lawmakers to authorize emergency access to marijuana for patients with "progressive and degenerative" conditions.

Missy Miller was one of the parents who convinced lawmakers to pass the medical marijuana law last year. She says her 15-year-old son Oliver, who suffers from frequent seizures, can't wait until next year, when officials say the program should be up and running.

Last year, federal officials denied New York's request to import marijuana from another medical marijuana state to speed up the process.
