Police have arrested a Chandler couple who allegedly smoked marijuana with their adolescent sons as a reward for ''being good.'''
Aaron Virgil Carlson, 23, and Toni Lynn Carlson, 31, were taken into custody Thursday at 6 p.m. at the couple's home in the 400 block of West Aloe Place, near Ocotillo Road and Arizona Avenue, after learning the two were supplying their 11- and 12-year-old sons with marijuana, police said.
Authorities received an anonymous tip from a neighbor and obtained a search warrant for the house, where they found an undisclosed amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, said Sgt. Rick Griner, a Chandler police spokesman.
The children also told police of their parents' drug habits, Griner said.
Police are investigating how often the parents supplied the children with the drug and how often they would smoke it with the two boys. Marijuana was given to the children for good behavior in general, Griner said.
"Usually you get a bonus on your allowance or a movie or an extra star on your allowance chart," Griner said. "To get to smoke a bowl with mom and dad, that's pretty out there."
Police also believe the couple was selling marijuana, but are still investigating whether the boys possessed the drug at times other than at home, such as at school, police said. They'll also investigate whether the parents were supplying other children.
The two boys, along with the couple's 4-year-old daughter, who police believe was not given marijuana, have beem placed in the care and custody of another family member, as recommended by Child Protective Services, police said.
"Hopefully they were reached early enough at a young age and hopefully through family counseling and other family members they can correct the behaviors," Griner said.
The two were booked on counts of possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, drug paraphernalia, contributing to the delinquency of minors, and endangerment.
