PakaCordova's First Journal For My First Grow - Dinafem Blue Kush - Soil - Nov 2014

So here we go. My first journal for my first grow!
Since I am new to this, any advice would be greatly appreciated if you see me doing something completely wrong. I am not a master grower but I hope to be one some day and today marks the start of that journey.

:Namaste:

My Goals
I want to be able to provide myself with my own top notch natural medication. I am not looking to go big, just a nice self sustaining perpetual system to supply the myself with the meds that I need. I want to learn all there is to know about this wonderful plant and ways to produce the best possible yields from it. I hope to learn a lot from fellow enthusiasts so please feel free to lend me any advice you may have that could help me along the way.

Future Plans
Light is being provided by CFLs (I will have pics below) but I would love to step up my lights to LEDs. I have heard a lot of great things about them and I think CFLs may limit my final harvest from reaching it's maximum potential.

I also want to try hydroponics. Whether it is deep water culture, ebb and flow, aeroponics, the soiless growing method fascinates me. I think I will go for a simple DWC setup on my first attempt. Something like this: Viagrow Black Bucket Deep Water Culture Hydroponic System-V1DWC - The Home Depot I need to do a lot more homework before trying it out though. I still need to learn about feeding, nute balancing, ppms, water info etc.

My Current Setup For This Grow
Feminized Beans by Dinafem - Strain is Blue Kush 55% Sativa / 45% Indica Blue Kush – Buy Blue Kush feminized cannabis seeds
Tent #1 / Lighthouse Hydro 4' x 2' - vegging
Tent #2 / Lighthouse Hydro 4' x 2' - flowering
Lights / 2 banks of 4x23W Daylight CFLs in each tent (hope to upgrade soon)
Air is extracted by a 440 CFM fan pulling from both tents to a central scrubber box housing the carbon filter
Soil / Foxfarm Ocean Forest + Roots Organic + Perlite + Dolomite Lime mixed
Nutes / Foxfarm Nutrient Trio
Water / Tap balanced to around 6.0 ph

Let's get to it!

Since I had 2 smaller tents, I didnt want to have 2 carbon filters so I drew up a diagram for my airflow. It has changed slightly from this but this is the basic layout. The only difference now is my drying box feeds into my flowering tent and then it is pulled from the flowering tent to the scrub box. 4" duct from veg tent to scrub box, 6" duct from flower tent to scrub box and 4" duct from drying box to flower tent.

Here is my fan and filter that I will be using once you start smelling that good stink.

My light is produced by CFLs and I hope to step up my game to some LEDs. Preferrably Mars Hydro

The next day I decided to germ using wet paper towels. It worked pretty well because within 12 hours I had this little guy.

ITS ALIVE, ITS ALIVE!
This is not my Foxfarm soil. I moved to Foxfarm a bit later because I wasn't happy with this initial soil.

Oh cool, green moss growing on the inside of my flower pot...WAIT WTF!!! I thought I was a genius that I started my plant in a clear painters cup so I could see how wet the soil was. Yeah, don't do that or you will get some green moss growing in your soil. I think it may have screwed up my soil for a bit. Stupid me.-
-
I grabbed a roll of black duct tape and taped the out side of my pot. Hopefully this fixes it.

That mossy soil was still in the back of my mind so I grabbed a 0.7 gallon pot and transplanted her. This is where I used my new soil mix of Foxfarm Ocean Forest mixed with Roots Organic + perlite + dolomite lime.

Re: OldManClemens' First Journal For My First Grow / Dinafem Blue Kush / Soil / Nov

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for my grow? I am eager to learn especially if I am not doing something that I should or I am doing something that could be improved.

Re: OldManClemens' First Journal For My First Grow / Dinafem Blue Kush / Soil / Nov

Subbed! The plant looks great and healthy and your setup looks nice too. Remember to keep everything clean and you shouldn't have any problems. Keep up the good work!:peace:

She is exactly 4 weeks old today! ;)

Some shots of the supercropping and LST. No knuckles yet but hopefully soon. I have no idea what the holes in my fan leaf is from. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: OldManClemens First Journal For My First Grow - Dinafem Blue Kush - Soil - Nov 2

As far as the holes they may be from Spider mites.. No need to panic ..it is usually an easy fix.. Lady bug.s are a natural predator against them, and their are some organic products to rid them.. I have used SNS-217 Spider Mite Control is made up of 100% pure Rosemary botanical extracts. Good luck and Happy growing ..

Re: OldManClemens First Journal For My First Grow - Dinafem Blue Kush - Soil - Nov 2

I've noticed that some leaves, particularly those in the early stages of growth have small imperfections and deformities, which the later leaves do not exhibit as the plants mature. Keep an eye out, but don't be too overly keen to fix problems which may not be there. Otherwise, everything looks great :)

Re: OldManClemens First Journal For My First Grow - Dinafem Blue Kush - Soil - Nov 2

Yes the mites are microscopic . I would add that one of the most beneficial things that I have ever purchased for growing is one of these Usb cameras It is great for checking out disease but really shines when you want to check out your trichromes .. I do not work for any of the companies that I will ever suggest..

Do you have any sample pics to see the quality of the image?

Just a small update. Transplanted her to a much larger pot. 3 times as large. I wish I took a pic of the roots but they were all over the inside of the old pot.

Also included a pic of my water's PH level. I really need to get a digital reader because I cannot tell which yellow this is closest to! LOL

Exciting day today. I just placed my order for two 100x3w Mars Hydro LED lights!! So damn excited!

This one: LED Grow Light 100x3w - Mars Hydro

She is also loving the new larger 3 gallon pot. Stretching her arms and legs a bit. I tossed 4 more CFLs under a new reflector in the mean time too.-

That's some pretty decent image quality for such a low cost camera. I will definitely look into getting one of these!
