Painted buds

My friend was telling me earlier that he was watching a show on tv and they was talking about growing med pot. He said there was a man that was painting a black tar on his buds a few days before harvest.

I told him i never heard of such, anyone out there know what he could be talking about?

Oil them down after drying and curing, never heard of doing it before harvest.
