Pittsburgh is changing its zoning regulations to accommodate medical marijuana distributors and producers.
City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved legislation that would require distributors to operate only in commercial zones and production facilities only in areas zoned as industrial.
Councilman Corey O'Connor of Swisshelm Park, who sponsored the bill, said the legislation is in response to the recent legalization of medical marijuana by state lawmakers.
He said the city zoning board would write new rules and submit them to council for final approval, likely sometime in 2017.
