McKeesport becomes the medical marijuana capital of Allegheny County on Thursday.
Community members and elected officials will break ground for PurePenn's 21,000-square-foot facility in the RIDC Industrial Park at 3 p.m. One of the first licensed production sites in Pennsylvania, the facility sits on five acres.
As part of the event, the city and PurePenn are hosting a community gathering at 2:15 p.m. After the groundbreaking, PurePenn will present a $50,000 check to a joint venture called the McKeesport Community Fund.
At 4 p.m., PurePenn will host a job fair at the McKeesport Palisades Event Center.
Attendees are expected to include state Sen. Jim Brewster, county executive Rich Fitzgerald, Mayor Mike Cherepko and patient advocates.
