Medical marijuana is close to becoming legal in Pennsylvania as Senate Bill 3 is headed to Governor Wolf's desk.
The Governor announced Wednesday that he will sign Senate Bill 3 into law this weekend but after that, how long will it take to get things up and running?
The Department of Health will oversee the effort and officials say once the bill is signed, it won't take effect for a month.
In Pennsylvania, 25 growing permits will be issued statewide along with 50 permits for dispensaries. Those growers and dispensaries will need about two years to get "up and running."
In the meantime, a safe harbor provision will allow parents to provide medical marijuana to their children if they buy it legally from another state. It is important to note, it is still illegal for adults to transport medical marijuana across state lines.
