Emmaus, Pa. - An ordinance that would regulate medical marijuana facilities in the Borough of Emmaus will receive a second reading at the legislative body's Feb. 6 meeting.
Several people have expressed interest in placing a facility in the borough; the comments were made during council's Dec. 19 meeting. As a result of this interest, borough officials said they want to be proactive in determining where the facilities can go and how they will be governed and still be in compliance with the law.
The ordinance received its first reading on Dec. 19.
In other business, council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the borough's abandoned real property and blighted property. The borough is also interested in applying for $1.5 million in Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants toward the borough's new facility. Should the borough receive the grant, it would go toward construction costs, according to borough Manager Shane Pepe.
Finally Nigel Watt, issued a letter to the borough in which he resigned from the joint environmental advisory council due to family obligations. Pepe said Watt had been a valuable member of the council and his service would be missed.
