OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

Not surprised the RDWC won out in the end - I remember we both thought it odd the coco got an early lead. That said there are worse things you could do than to try 2 clones from the same plant to compare both approaches. You know, for science!

This can be done, the clones in the bubble tub are 3 of each from the same plant and at the time I took them the plants were pretty even in growth, the Widow clones came from the Widow in Coco, and the Kush clones came from the gal up front and to the right that is short with nice tight node spacing!:slide:

It's gonna work OTM :) One of yours seeds will pop!

Thanks for stopping by JustMeds! :welcome:

Thank you for the suggestions, I just did the second batch and did do a pre-soak for about an hour in H2O2 after I scuffed them up. I bumped the GA3 to 500 PPM on this round but I do like the idea of distilled water with a little honey and maybe a drop or 2 of Rapid Root once the crack...sounds similar to the Microclone seed starter kit I ordered!

:thanks:

My thought process was to use the chems and then get them away as soon as possible to let them seeds do their thing. I would be so scrooge I would probable only be trying 2 seeds at a time till I got one to go and then it would be kept just for clones till I got the rest going. I don't know if I could let one of them old genetics leave. Would be working with clones from then forward.

I am feeling good about it and I do like JustMeds Idea of changing to a distilled or RO water with a little honey. I do have a sample bottle of GH Rapid Root that a couple drops with the honey sounds like a good tap root making environment once they crack!

If I remember right the GA3 is an acid. Which I think is to help soften shell cause old seedlings are/or will be weak from storage. During that time they burn up the carbohydrates in very small amounts to stay viable. Thinking about it there is another sugar which dissolves well in water not sure which one it may be glucose. May be something to research and try that instead of honey. Looking for something that is very easy for young plant to absorb. It don't have roots yet so not sure on using rapid root.

My plan is to start with the Maui Wowie seeds because those I have the most of. Once I get a sure fire method to bringing these back to life, then I will move on to the Red & Gold.

I am hoping to get a male and female of each strain, lock them in their own tent and let them make me new seeds...I can always pull clones for smoke testing!:lot-o-toke:

From Wikipedia;

Gibberellic acid (also called Gibberellin A3, GA, and GA3) is a hormone found in plants and fungi. Its chemical formula is C19H22O6. When purified, it is a white to pale-yellow solid.

Gibberellins have a number of effects on plant development. They can stimulate rapid stem and root growth, induce mitotic division in the leaves of some plants, and increase seed germination rate.

Gibberellic acid is sometimes used in laboratory and greenhouse settings to trigger germination in seeds that would otherwise remain dormant. It is also widely used in the grape-growing industry as a hormone to induce the production of larger bundles and bigger grapes, especially Thompson seedless grapes. In the Okanagan and Creston valleys, it is also used as a growth replicator in the cherry industry. It is used on Clementine Mandarin oranges, which may otherwise cross-pollinate with other citrus and grow undesirable seeds. Applied directly on the blossoms as a spray, it allows for Clementines to produce a full crop of fruit without seeds.

From my understanding, it will wake up the dormant seed, kind of get everything working again so the seed will want to root...kind of like that first cup of coffee in the morning! :laughtwo:

OTM, just goes to show I did not remember right. Thanks for clearing it up. Everyone is always wanting and hoping for a tent right full of bud. I am hoping you just get a plant that gets 2 leaves started on it, then the tent full.

That is what we all want, and this is the place to learn how to get it!

There are many, many talented growers on this site to learn from and everyone is so helpful...If I can get these old beans to grow, how I accomplish the feat will be right here so when the next person that finds some old seeds hidden away like I did, all they have to do is refer to this journal for the method that worked best!:nomo:

Hi Age, I hope they pop...all of you following are going to get sick of seeing me fail!:laughtwo:

Did you make it back home yet to see your clones?

I had forgotten to plug in the bubbler after i changed the water. They were still green, but had WPM, at that stage just not worth trying to save. Ive got 5 more going, and a blue berry seed soaking. Im hoping for a male, Ive got some ideas about seed generation.

Sorry to hear that, you can get rid of it but it may be harder on clones...in a week you will have roots shooting out again and be able to watch them develop...good luck on the male, it seems when you don't want one you will get one and vice versa!

Re: OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

Can't even count the amount of times I forgot to plug in my bubbler after checking it, I'm sure CG heard me yell the F word a few times lol.
I retired it and just use plugs now, less chance of me screwing up.

Thanks for stopping by Suntana :welcome:

I hear you, I don't know how many times I have double checked something in the grow room...I am good for filling a 5 gal pail of RO which takes about 1 1/2 hrs and spacing it off for 3-4 hrs...need to plumb in a float valve that sits on the bucket to cure that!:hmmmm:
