OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

Just be careful now Old timer so the beans don't get fried by that heatpad. That would be a shame. This is really going the right direction. You already got much further than the last thread I saw attempting the same.

I wonder how these strains measure up to the modern hybrids when it comes to bud size and thc content?

7-18 update;

I was gone most of the day again, but I did make it home before lights out, so here is a couple pictures of the current grow, still some stretching happening, but it is slowing down and the buds are starting to fill in.

The roots are really starting to grow on the clones, once they hit the water...they really take off!:cheertwo:

I wish the old beans would shit or get off the pot...I see no taps peeking out and it appears the shells have closed up some since they were put into the paper towel, the towel is plenty moist and the temp is around 80 degrees, so I don't think I am cooking them.

I am thinking that the shells closed some because the towel probably absorbed some of the water, not really sure what to do, other than keep them moist, warm, and dark.

The two that did not crack are still in the water, they look the same as last night.

I may go buy some soil mix tomorrow and plant them in one pot and set them outside...then mix up a stronger GA3 mixture and try 6 more. I sure wish I had better results for all of you, last night things were looking good, tonight, not so much!

:thanks:

IDK - I honestly don't know how they're supposed to look because I put them in water until they sink, then in wet paper/heatmat for 8-12 hours. Then I plant them in soil. Then 3-4 days later I will have a tiny plant. That method has worked for me since my first grow and I never tried any other way :)

No worries man, were hoping you get some to pop.. doesnt affect us any, just want you to get those old strains going. Its pretty neat. Looks like they were easy to crack open but nothing after that.. did you try the sandpaper in a tube and shake it up thing? Probably not going to help the tap roots peek out but its a suggestion. The flowering ladies sure look great and man you arent kidding about the clones. They had little roots on the stems a few days ago and are that big now.. i wanna try cloning. It looks fun!

When I was growing these 40 years ago, all I did is put them cup with dirt and kept them moist, probably a 90+% success rate. On my current grow with fresh seeds, 12 hrs in water and 5 had cracked, put them in a wet paper towel and 12 hrs later all were pushing out tap roots.

Maybe genetics plays a part as well as the age of the seed, the first two I soaked right after I found them just sunk and never cracked open, they are still in the rooters in the germination dome with 70-75% RH and temps between 75 & 80 degrees...you would think that would be ideal to wake them up.

Maybe I am to impatient and need to let time do its thing!:smokin2:

I did the sandpaper tube thing on these before the soak, I have at least 120 more to try and I am not giving up on these yet, they showed promise, and maybe I am expecting too much from them to soon.

You still have so many other ideas to try... take your time, you got this.

And even if nothing ever comes of this, look at it like we're all playing the lottery. Most of the time, you don't win. But when you buy that ticket, and think about what might happen, you feel great for a little while. People don't play the lottery to win, they play to get that feeling of what it could be like if they do win. Everyone following along - and it's quite a following you've gained here, for good reason - is here for that feeling of what if. Even if nothing ever grows from these, we've still had a chance to live out the fantasy for a while, and hope for the best. That alone makes it worthwhile!

I never have any luck with the lottery either! but you are right about the dreaming part!:laughtwo:

I am not giving up, and I am no stranger to failure, it just makes me want to try harder and expand my attempts, thankfully I have a great bunch of people here like yourself following along, advising and suggesting ideas...I do think together we will be able to have success and learn in the process!:thanks:

I had the same problems when attempting old seeds OTM The root would show, you take it out of water and the seed closes back up. I even tried splitting a few open with tweezers to ensure they would stay open but still no taproot. It could be another option to try. May work for you
