The Oregon Liquor Control Commission suspended the license of an Oregon marijuana processor Wednesday, more fallout from what authorities last week initially thought would be a routine traffic stop in Nebraska.
Richard Wilkinson, 38, of Damasus, was driving a van pulled over by police because he was driving too close to another vehicle.
And then authorities smelled marijuana.
A search of the van uncovered 25 pounds of cannabis extract worth about $1.1 million. Police also found sealed packages of marijuana, vials of hash oil and 3,500 marijuana seeds.
The Lincoln Journal Star newspaper reported Wilkinson and a man with him, John E. Carlston of Cranston, Rhode Island, apparently were en route to a state where medical marijuana is legal.
Business filings with the Oregon Secretary of State Office show Wilkinson owns Rich Extracts, a Clackamas business licensed to process and sell cannabis extract.
On Wednesday, the OLCC suspended the company's recreational marijuana processor license. An agency spokesman said Wilkinson's processing operation had been under investigation.
The suspension is based on three alleged category one violations, the most serious type of violation. If proven, the license would be revoked. Rich Extracts has until Feb. 12, 2018 to request an OLCC hearing.
