The La Pine City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Wednesday night that places restrictions on medical marijuana dispensaries.
State law requires dispensaries to be more than 1,000 feet from a school attended by minors and prohibits the growth and use of marijuana on-site. The La Pine ordinance further limits operating hours (9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday) and requires robust accounting and record-keeping systems. It also states that a dispensary may not be within 500 feet of a child care facility, 750 feet of a public library or 1,000 feet of another dispensary.
The La Pine Planning Commission will hold a meeting and public hearing 6 p.m. Wednesday at La Pine City Hall on an ordinance amending a commercial zone ordinance related to medical marijuana dispensaries. If approved, the ordinance would require dispensary storefronts to be set back at least 50 feet from U.S. Highway 97, and that their entrances not face the highway. This ordinance contains an emergency declaration as well, which will make it take effect before the May 1 expiration date of the city's moratorium on dispensaries.
After the hearing, City Council will have to approve the zoning ordinance at its April 22 meeting.
