Would you like to learn about marijuana and its medicinal/recreational uses? The Neport 60+ Activity Center has assembled a panel of experts to answer your questions. Please join us on Monday, October 24 at the Center for Health Education, 740 S.W. 9th Street in Newport. There will be two FREE sessions available to the public: 11:00 a.m. — 12:00 p.m. and 5:30 — 6:30 p.m.

The sessions will be facilitated by Cheryl Haryl of BOSS radio. The panel will include Jessica Palma and Jennifer Vorsteeg of the Lincoln County Health and Human Services Public Health Division, Corvallis RN Laurel James and representatives from the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Medical Marijuana Association. Also on the panel will be local marijuana grower and shop owner Ryan Bledsoe of Bernie's Universal Dispensary.

Medical marijuana has been found to be helpful in the treatment of cancer, HIV, AIDS, seizures, including epilepsy, severe muscle spasms, such as those associated with multiple sclerosis, and severe cases of pain and/or nausea. There are many ways of using marijuana besides smoking it, including lotions & potions, edibles and oils.

Some of the typical questions that have been asked in the months since marijuana was legalized in Oregon are: "What are the health effects of marijuana use?" "Is marijuana addictive?" "Can it help me sleep better?" "Will it help ease my pain?" Be sure to bring your questions to this informative community event. If you have questions, please call the 60+ Activity Center at 541-265-9617.
