Grants Pass - Home of the original "Hemp" Latte` and house roast "Chronic Blend", Joe Buzz Espresso & More, opened their new location in Grants Pass on December 8, 2004 showcasing award winning baristas from Japan who served Latte` art for the public.
"After a career in the computer industry I decided to take control of my life and start my own business," said Trevis Webb, Owner/Operator of Joe Buzz. "I originally started out serving coffee, with foods like deep-fried Twinkies, in a traveling event trailer at the turn of the millennium."
With fierce competition in the coffee industry, Webb knew he had come up with something original when he stumbled on hemp seed. Working with another local retailer, Rogue Coffee Roasting, he began roasting the seeds and eventually developed his first product "Chronic Blend" - a blend of premium certified coffee beans and roasted hemp with a nutty, robust flavor for a healthier coffee. Webb later introduced his original hemp latte` made of 100 per cent industrial hemp and soy.
Initially people shied away from Webb's hemp products linking it to the likes of marijuana.
Hemp is cannabis grown specifically for industrial use and thus contains very low levels of cannabinoids (THC). The use of hemp dates back many thousands of years and is found in many products.
"The relationship of hemp to marijuana is much like the relationship of mushrooms to hallucinogenic mushrooms--aside from being in the same family there is no relationship," said Webb. "Overcoming this stigma took some time but we finally got there. Today Joe Buzz products are carried in nearly 80 locations."
Hemp is the world's riches source of the essential fatty acids Omega 6 and 3, it is second only to Soy as a complete protein and contains vitamins A & E, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium & Zinc.
Joe Buzz is open until 10:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings. Webb, a Professional Magic Player, hosts Magic tournaments sanctioned by Wizards of the Coast. The tournaments are held upstairs in the Joe Buzz Lounge alternating every other Thursday with free play. Star Trek fanatics will buzz with excitement when they see s real Star Trek Captains Chair co-located with a large screen TV and game tables.
"We have created a family gaming atmosphere," said Webb. "Adults, teens and children can learn the game of Magic--we have the best prices in town for Magic products including the introductory package "Magic-The Gathering" along with collectables and booster packs."
According to Webb, Magic is a socially interactive game made up of mathematical and strategic moves and claims the best part is you're battling one another rather than a TV or a computer.
