Opinion on hidden cab dimensions?

Hey guys, I was wondering if a cabinet that is 5ft tall x 1.5 wide and 1.5 deep would be sufficient to grow one plant? My space is pretty limited width wise as I am trying to camo a cabinet to appear to be part of an already existing closet. The height isn't an issue but the width is as it has to appear to be part of the wall

as you can see in my lovely drawing the cab would be hidden behind the door and painted to appear to be part of the wall. even the bar with the hangers would run through the cab for authenticity.

So what do you think? Is it wide / deep enough?

You could certainly grow one and possibly more. You could divide it up into mother chambers and flowering sections. You have enough room... people grow in pc cases.

Absolutely! One plant would be no problem.

I would veg it to no more than a foot if you are using CFLs for a light source. You want the light to penetrate during flower and CFLs don't have the same penetration as HIDs. Depending on your budget LEDs might work for you. It would need to fit in your cab. LEDs have show a lot of promise for the small grower. They use less energy and emit less heat. CFLs run pretty cool and are also inexpensive.

I probably wouldn't use a HID in a space that small unless I was sure I could manage the temps. I grow in a 2'x3'x6' cab with a 400W hps. I use a sealed ducted hood to remove heat. I tried running with the glass off the hood once. Only once. It got really hot , really fast. Me no likey!

If you need to be stealth I would probably go with LED for a medium to high budget. I would use CFLs for a low budget option. This would keep the heat load low. Lower temps means less fan noise. I've only used CFL and HPS so I can't offer any firsthand experience with LEDs. But if you decide to use CFLs, keep the lights close. 2 inches away is fine. If you can hold the back of your hand 2 inches away from the light for 30 seconds comfortably, you plants will be comfortable at that distance also.

Don't forget about odor control. You will need a small carbon filter with a small fan to clean the air if you grow a stinky strain.

Good Luck. ;)

Hey guys thanks for the info! I know that people grow in pf cases but I just wanted to be sure this would work for me! I am thinking of mounting some cfls on the wall of the box below the canopy for better light coverage, since they can be mounted at such close distances safely!

Thanks again!

I have used CFLs exculsively for two years for all my indoor adventures.

I hear the two inches and I have experienced two inches a lot, from plants growing too fast. Two inches will burn up leaf. I try to stay 4 inches, It is a daily job.
