Ontario Medical Grow renewal times?

Anyone know how long they are taking for renewals right now?

I had to cancel my Dr Appt due to weather, then again today because I have the flu. He is going to mail me my prescription, but my permit expires Mar 7, so I'm pretty sure I'm in a pickle here ow. I had been thinking end of April, but all I can do is send it off as soon as I get it, and hope I don't get noticed before the renewal arrives.

Also, if they don't get it by the 7th, do I have to start all over again? I'm talking up to 40 plants, so that's not covered by the 4 plant personal allowance, and I certainly don't want to chop em down on the 7th....

Renewal by Health Canada takes 6 - 8 weeks. Growing without a license is still an offense. You may be able to get around this as Health Canada is now issuing licenses good for one year from the date of issue. So, if your medical document is dated 7 Mar 2018, and Health Canada issued your license at the end of April, you may be covered. You'll need to call them to confirm this.

I just checked with Health Canada and the form used under the ACMPR is still being used, even though the ACMPR has been repealed.

Yep, the license expires Mar 7. I know the "standard" answer is 6-8 weeks, but I'm hoping to hear from someone who just got their renewal, and how long it actually took.

We're a senior couple on disability, who due to health reasons and weather were not able to renew on time, I'd hope there would be some leniency there... If not, you'll read about us in the paper I guess...

I know how that works. My wife had a total knee replacement a week before Christmas. She's still having a lot of pain and difficulty walking. The weather? I'm in Nova Scotia, and there have been several days even the military bases have been closed.

Even Canada Post has halted mail delivery a few times here (Southern Ontario) recently due to the weather, I don't remember that happening before....

The standard medical document for purchasing takes effect on the day it is signed. Does the grow application work like that or is that the part that changed so people were not losing months.

I can not imagine you having any problem if you continue growing before the paper approval arrives. They can't expect you to kill any growing plants on March 7.

Also you can grow 4 plants under the rec cannabis laws in addition to medical limits.

No worries at all :thumb::thumb:

Sort of... A grow license, and medical use license are valid from the date they are issued by Health Canada until the end date on the license. In the past it has been valid until your prescription ends. It took almost five months for my first license, so my one year prescription was only good for seven months. My current license took six weeks for Health Canada to issue, after I had my prescription renewed, so it is only good for 46 weeks.

I have heard that Health Canada has changed the method used to set the end date. Apparently licenses are now the same length as your prescription. If Health Canada takes two months to process your application, and your prescription is dated the end of February, your license will be good from the end of April, to the same time next year.

Well, the prescriptions from the doctor finally showed up in the mail today, so our applications have been filled out, signed, sealed, and will be mailed first thing in the morning, probably sent overnight and will likely show up at Health Canada's office on the day my existing permit expires :(

Health Canada expects you to kill the plants, and dispose of any medical cannabis you have when your license expires. A prescription is not enough for medical cannabis, you need the license to grow and/or use it medically. Well, that's the law the way it is written.

Now with recreational use legalized, things get more complex. There is no limit on the amount of recreational cannabis you can have in your home. You can grow up to four plants for recreational use. There is nothing in the laws or regulations that forbids medical users from using, storing, or growing recreational cannabis. I strongly suspect that this, and many other aspects of our new laws and regulations will be tested in the courts in the next few years.

Well, they didn't expect me to grow BEFORE I got my license either :)

Anyhow, I've scaled things down for the time being... Mailed my paperwork in yesterday, it was delivered today, so it's in their hands now, I'll just keep low. I did install a carbon filter and fan though, wish I had done that long ago, it has removed the smell completely!

I take your point but its different some how for a renewal. In any case I doubt you will have any issues.

It all comes down to the agenda of whoever comes knocking... If I were nearby I'd offer to foster odam2k's plants until his license is renewed.

For me, it comes down to this...

I give them no reason to come knocking... I KNOW they have better things to do than to chase a couple seniors who have a few plants going while waiting for their medical license to be renewed. I also know from past interactions with police (positive) I've never been charged even though I've had pot confiscated...

I'm not one of those people who think all cops are bad, and all cops are out to get me... I'm sure there are some, but, I suspect most people bring it upon themselves. (most, certainly not all)

Wow, great news, they received our forms (wife and I both) on Mar 7.

Yesterday (Apr 2) we received her license in the mail, effective Mar 24.

That means they processed it withing 17 days (~2 weeks) and was back to us within ~3 weeks.

I expect mine to show up any day, this is what happened first time too, even though both applications were sent together in the same envelope.

I sent mine by registered mail Friday, and they received it yesterday (2 business days). I'm hoping they were as slow as last year (six weeks) since my license expires June 1.
