The Story Continues...........................................................We get an OIC
A few months had gone by and we were pretty happy doing a few EO workshops in our little classroom. Sam and I had it down and we were cruising.
One morning in walked an older Captain. I say older because at his age he should have been a Major. It was our new OIC. Let's just call him Captain Dan. We gave him the grand tour and briefed him on all that had happened. Including, of course, the XO's last words. He just smiled and said he was used to being knocked around and told us his story.
He had been in command of a recruiting section of a vast east coast Recruiting Command. His section had actually been doing very well and were expecting a few "Atta Boys" for their work. That never happened. The entire Command was in trouble for promising the incoming enlistees all sorts of select jobs and positions. After the investigation he and his command were cleared. The whole mess took years to be straitened out. No one was promoted. He had one more chance to make Major, which was coming up soon.
He knew nothing of EO. Sam and I started teaching him what he would have to know. Actually, it was fun, The Captain was fun and had a great since of humor. The months went by. He invited us and our families over to his house many times for volleyball and other games. We all liked this man, he was good people. Jo loved his wife.
This was more like it.
Then, one day a young black PFC came in and told us a story.
There was a Barber Shop right outside the front gate and this young man went over for a hair cut. He had short hair to begin with. The Barber charged him $8.00 for a Fro cut.
All the other people were charged Three dollars. for a hair cut..
Sam and I went over to investigate..............................................................To be Continued
