Old vs. New school debate

Ok so I'm a relatively new grower indoors growing a nice bubba kush strain. My father is an old school out doors grower who usto grow 12 to 14 foot mosters in the 70's. My system gets me between 3 to 5 ounces a plant on a 6 week veg. From clones. To me this is good and dad thinks so to but we disagree on a few things and I know the way I'm growing is working but I want to explain to him why he is incorrect on a couple issues.

A. He thinks my fox farm big grow at 6-4-4 is way to lite on nutrients. He says 6 percent nitrogen is not enough to flourish. He swears by peters 20-20-20.

B. I keep my bud room at 82 with lights on and hit 70 with lights off. I feel the 82 is a little to hot and wanna bring it down. Is it to hot or just right? (I also run a co2 boost bucket if that makes a difference)

I would like to post photos if necessary to see what you guys think if they are healthy or not. I am self taught by books DVD and alot of trial and error.

Easy to fix, grow a couple your way and a couple his way at the same time.

Best explanation is what you can see, touch and smoke.

Read up more on CO2, hotter = better usually. You can get 90f and even a little higher with 1200-1500ppm CO2 as long as your humidity and everything else is good.

Here are the pictures i promised. Hope they are good enough to tell. These are all Royal Kush Plants that are 10 days into bud. I only veg. these ones for 5 weeeks so they are a little smaller but i still hope to get 3 to 4 ounces off each one.

The percentages don't matter.....you may use more (mass) total per plant cycle, but if the plants are happy it is all the same. You will probably use 3-4 times more mass, which is equal to 1 part of his. Also depends on the size of the plants--this is assuming the plants are the same size. Bigger plants will need more nutes. Good luck on your argument. It is always hard to change somebody's mind. Kind of pointless too.....Real CO2 would increase your yield (enough to pay for the system the first harvest).

Your so right it is hard changing his point of view. I have 11 new babies ( about 2 weeks old) that are about ready to get there first shot of nutes. I have changed his mind on how i top and tie back and prune though, so to make it fare i have decided to give him 3 clones of his own that he can use his 20-20-20 on and i will take care of the rest. Only time will tell which way is the best!

OG13 you talk of the quantity that a plant gets. I use fox farm nutes. So right now my flower cycle gets 2 tsp of tiger bloom with 2 table spoons of big bloom mixed with one gallon of water. This for me....waters three of my plants. I have been told that my plants need a whole gallon a peice though. My problem with that is if i do say only two plants with a gallon it just runs out the bottom onto the floor. What would you suggest?

Also looking from the pictures do you think i should get 3 ounces off each plant if i finish my flower cycle out good? Anyones opinon will help

Here is a picture of my 2 week old babies- i start counting when i transfer them into there first pot after they come out of the cloner

Try watering each plant a little to let the soil absorb, then water each a little more. If you water slowly, it shouldn't run out immediately. You didn't say what size pots your are in (what type too) and dimensions of plants above the soil.

Cool i will try that technique. My plants are 15-18" tall and 24-26" wide. I have them in smart pots (fabric) which are 5 gallon pots and fox farm oceans soil. They all also have between 25 to 30 colas on each plant. I do the top and tie down method to keep them short but wide with alot of colas.

My babies are in 3 qt. pots in happy frog soil.

I also use rootpots and any kind of tray/ dish underhelps w runoff...u want atleast 10%runoff w each watering....iuse 2gal rootpots w 10" dishes underneth filled w bonticare "READY2GRO" moisture formula w some minor additions...and I leave my runoff if its 1/4inch or less in trays...hope this helps

As a first timer any opinion on the pictures or how the plants look would be greatly appreciated. I did og technique And it really seems to help. I watered about half if what I normally do then waited 5 mins and then gave them the other half and wow did it make a difference. The trays are a good idea too I'm gonna grab some tonight thanks.

they look fine, I say keep doing what you are, and as long as your girls and you are happy then it should speak for itself. Looks like your doing a fine so far, if it aint broke dont fix it, Just upgrade from time to time. lol.. Anyway, nice plants. Keep on growing and enjoying life and alls good.
