Clayton — City Council will consider a resolution Thursday night that if approved would place an immediate 180-day moratorium on the granting of any permit allowing retail dispensaries, cultivators, or processors of medical marijuana within the city limits.
Ohio legalized medical marijuana when Gov. John Kasich signed House Bill 523 on June 8, making Ohio the 25th state to have a workable medical marijuana law. The new law goes into effect next month. The law allows seriously ill patients to use and purchase medical cannabis that will be cultivated and processed in-state.
Council will meet in council chambers, Clayton Government Center, 6996 Taywood Rd., at 7:30 p.m Thursday, Aug. 18.
Clayton would be joining other communities, like Beavercreek and Troy, that have imposed temporary bans on medical marijuana businesses. Miamisburg is set to discuss a ban tonight.
