New York State has its first official medical marijuana patient.

Vireo Health of New York introduced Brittany Barger, 27, in White Plains.

She's believed to be the state's first ever medical cannabis patient.
Barger has ovarian cancer.

Chemo made her too sick, so she set out to find an alternative, a medication that she feels she has more control of.

"Knowing that I have some say and hopefully I will get an increased quality of life, and get some of my independence back, that's my biggest goal," Barger explained.

She started taking the medication as soon as it became available last Thursday.

Since then, she says she's taken less pain medication, has felt hungry and actually eaten, which she says has made her parents very happy.

A sham would be an improvement.

The NYS Department of Health has established the price at $0.94 per dose. The problem is that the dose is 2.5 mg of extract according to them. According to my use of their high THC vapor pen is closer to 40 mg.

So far, I've only been able to get any high THC medicine from Vireo. Maybe when all 5 companies are up and running, reality might set in.

To Governor Cuomo...
The fact that you sent so many people to prison for marijuana crimes (as attorney general) should play no part in this. This is medicine that many need and, thanks to you, can't afford.

Doctors and scientists should be making the decisions on this...not lawyers.
