A plant needs nutrients, whether they are organic or salt-based, whether they are added at the time of planting, throughout the grow, or whether they are already in the soil.
Things cannot live without food. Let alone live and grow well.
TorturedSoul is right, a plant needs food, but what you want to know is if you can grow it and only add water..right? the answer is yes, do a search for sub cools super soil, or better yet do the same search but add the word new because it was altered slightly. You can read the article and get the older mix @ the HT site. With a mix like Sub Cools you are supposed to only have to water, every the plant will need is in the soil....worse case is your plant will show you when its hungry, yellowing tips, wilted leaves and I'm sure there are other signs, but you need to watch close because other things can cause the same signs, you'll get it
Plants need N (Nitrogen), P (Phosphorous), and K (Potassium) for photosynthesis to happen. The different strength level require for different growth stages.
Organic and chemical are available. With organic it require time to break down for plants to use. For chemical it is ready available for plants use. There are pro and con for both. Mainly organic is use in soil, and chemical use for hydroponic though you can use chemical for soil grow.
