Nigeria: Traditional Rulers Warned Against Giving Lands To Hemp Cultivators

Akure – The National Drug Law enforcement Agency Commander in Ondo State, Mr. Walter Nicholas, at the weekend warned traditional rulers in the 18 local government areas of the state to avoid giving out their lands to Indian hemp cultivators.

Nicholas who gave the warning while speaking with journalists in Akure, said traditional rulers or anybody who gives lands to Indian hemp cultivators would be prosecuted.

The commander said it would no longer be business as usual, as intelligence reports confirm that some community leaders were giving lands for Indian hemp cultivation. He said the step became necessary in order to reduce the high rate of Indian hemp cultivation in the state.

He appealed to the federal and state governments to assist the command with operational vehicles to enable it cover the state effectively and efficiently and said the agency was ready to discharge its duties by making sure that no highly placed individual was allowed to undermine the effort of government in the fight against Indian hemp cultivation.
