Abuja – Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), FCT Command, Thursday arrested three male adults and one female with 255.9 kg of Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) in their possession.

Parading the four suspects at Gwagwalada, the NDLEA FCT Commandant, Mrs. Omolade Omole, said the suspects were arrested at Bamushi village, near Kuje Area Council.

She disclosed that the suspects conveyed the exhibits in a federal government utility Toyota Hilux van with registration number FG 191 A0 that belonged to the National Boundary Commission.

According to her, the command was tipped off by a resident of Bamushi village and immediately swung into action by arresting the suspects.

"We got information that some people were using a federal government vehicle to convey Indian hemp within and outside Abuja and we trailed them to their hide-out and arrested them," she said.

The commandant stated further that an agreement was reached between the driver of the Hilux van and another driver, who was to be paid N60,000 to help transport the exhibit.

Mrs. Omole however explained that the suspects were nabbed by his men at the point where they were offloading the exhibits along with their agents.

The NDLEA commandant decried the rampant use of government vehicles to convey Indian hemp and other illicit drugs, adding that those concerned in government establishments should monitor vehicles in their pools, especially when sending such drivers on errands.
