Nick Hardy's Skunk Works #2 The Giant SIP Outdoor Soil: Thailand!

Her sister is going full red on the stems. Its amazing. I’ve seen a lot of purple but never a pretty pure looking red.

She’s about 4 weeks out.

41” easy.

More interesting number for me? (And a PITA as I need to change the tap fitting on this balcony 😆) it has just 4” left in the res. She is absolutely gobbling it up. That’s at least what 6-8” - I need an online conical volume calculator to put it in litres but gotta be 8-20 litres the last couple of days?

Uh oh!

🤣

Yeah thought so. Think I could call her 42” fair and square today. She was 39” on Saturday and had a lot in the tank. That’s a solid 9 inches. Today less than half that. Call it 4 inches so the maths?

IMG_7121.jpeg

Its 55cm across at the top so lets call it 40cm at the res level and make it a cylinder shape or a humble tube.

10 cm is the water level change and the diameter is 40cm divided by 3 for the days since that photo.

Plus she had rain.

So these are the conservative numbers.

12.566 litres In 3 days so 4 litres or close on a gallon a day. Feels about right. There was big rain Saturday and Sunday too. But not counting that.
Here’s some maths with the “s”

So yeah - happy to drought her a little as Azi likes to play slowing her down would be good at this stage 😆

Because - I flip her at 5ft she’s still gonna be on greedy gannet veg drink the res mode - then she’ll fuck me with flower stretch 😆

Ah it’ll be funny.

Can’t say its anyone’s fault but mine - oh and the sun! I mostly blame that thing! 😂

Gave her a twirl. Something approximate to 180 degrees.

We’ll likely need to call a side - in fact we sorta have already as I clipped a node branch off what will be the backside (I am putting some spare silver reflective insulation we coated the flower room in though for her bum!)

She’s such a lovely rich deep green on the eye.

She’s getting some sun on her bum in the morning and then I’m gonna trim some leaves - but uppers this time for another Brix reading. 9.5%-6.5%-?.?% tomorrow?

Nick

Are you not giving the plant calmag at all?
All organic so I have loads of volcanic stones and stuff in to provide it Just need the myco to be breaking them down and feeding them.

I’m seeing zero pain in the plant - just used to hydro/coco where they grow much much quicker 😂

I want to really try and run her pure organic just borehole water.

Learned a lot from the awesome @Keffka on the calcium stuff in organic.

First 10 seconds of the video are of this girl. Beautiful green on my eyes. Neemed her for white fly this morning.

Oh my buddha!

I’m still gonna get it done but…

That $30 6500k (cold) white light is too powerful.

My ole 40-45 year old eyes? Yeah i got a lot of expensive LED, HPS and CMH lights in the house. 1000w to 315w - really all sorts.

Nothing hurt them like that.

Gotta gotta wear eye protection. Not sure its gonna be a great veg seedling light like I imagined. Though Sparky still here… have a dimmer 😂

Not a joke I can still see the bars floating in my vision.

Please take your eyes.

I’m an idiot - don’t be like me. Take care your eyes. My uncle on the paternal side, my Aunt’s husband? Yeah - one of the greatest paediatric eye surgeons of all time. He’d be clipping me round the ears he ever heard tell of me looking at that light. Laser eye surgery for myopic? He invented a process for doing it off the coast of Russia during early days of Perestroika in about 1985. On a boat. That moves.

Fuck - don’t do what I just did.

Eyes are soo precious.

I'm sure my lights have screwed my eyes up. I have these floaters that have been bugging me lately...
And I mean, there's the million times where I'm working on my plants in the tent only to realize I forgot to take my glasses off. Probably burning my retinas like little ants under a magnifying glass. That's usually followed by a wicked headache and feeling sick. I wear eye protection, at least when I remember to.

Once upon a time I thought it was lame to wear PPE. Then my vision and my hearing degraded severely. Im not even 40, my hearing is very poor, and my vision is getting blurrier by the year. I realized no one gives a shit about my senses so I stopped giving a shit about PPE looking lame. Nowadays I think people are lame if they don’t wear PPE. Life is wild 🤣

Not only oof on your eyes but I feel like I just read on here that leaves were never designed to get light from below.

Hope those ghost bars fade soon!

Yes and no. Photosynthesis takes place in the mesophyll layer(s) which can be seen here

IMG_6398.jpeg

So while technically you could photosynthesize from below, it’s really dependent on the plant. However this is a dangerous game to play. Cannabis is phototropic, like most other plants. It will want to grow toward the light. This could wind up causing more issues than it’s worth. You could probably exploit this but it would take quite a bit of trial and error to get it right.

Thanks to all who care - we do try to take care people’s eyes here I just had no idea a “mere 200w” light was gonna blind me like that

Careless stuff - 100% on me. Please someone read that and learn.

Shed/Keffka - I watched something, maybe Dr Bruce Bugabee that actually you might get something like an extra 10-20% photosynthesis from lighting plants from below - but honestly that light is only there in the picture because it was being tested first time as working after the six colour cabling issue had been solved by my sparky.

It’ll go on two microphone stands on the horizontal I reckon when sparkies back tomorrow.

Honestly though - what 3 hours later? My eyes still have the “blips” the “flies in my eyes”

Jeez but I’m dumb. Snarky Sparjy said “oh but that’s cold white light! Hurts more!”

Fair and true call 🤣

10-20% isn’t worth my time, effort, or cost as a home grower. However, in a commercial or profit driven situation 10-20 could make all the difference between success and failure. I’d keep that in my back pocket for one of those times you need a little nudge over the finish line

I’ve been watching a lot of a Youtube channel called CannaCribs recently which is fun. Its about commercial grows., some absolutely as big as they come, 10’s of thousands of sq/f grows. Not seen anyone doing it. Think I’m gonna stick a strip of the reflective insulation on the window behind to give some extra light, but the actual 200w - that’s just to try and flip her, build in memory of the street lights, and background light ‘noise’ with a week of mega light at night. Prevent her hermie’ing
