Brix at the moment. She is a bit light coloured (not like the photo - that’s just she’s under the house LEDs to keep her vegging) but she has kicked on since we moved her. Way more light. Storm this morning and she was fine. Wind has changed for sure. Monsoon def closing out on time.

I have another Red Hot Cookies in flower already. Full synthetic grow. I’ll test her tomorrow.

@Jon @Gee64 been throwing around some numbers. 12%+ at this stage ai think is the consensus?

@Wastei is less convinced of its relevance

I think its of use but a healthy looking plant will always have a good brix score. Its of more interest to other types of food safe industries. Confectionary for example.

I don’t think its true that organic will always score higher brix, for sure. A healthy plant is a healthy plant how ever you arrive there.

My 2c’s

She's looking good , maybe I should do one of them RHC in my tree SIP

Nick this is cool, can you watch something for me please. When plants sense a storm coming they will move sugars from their leaves to their roots, its to protect against wind shear, and after the storm the roots move it back up.

You can read about it and I have seen it drop a point or 2 when a storm rolls through for a day, but never a monsoon sized storm.

After the storm blows by and good weather returns, can you check brix again please? Lets see how many points it jumps up after a big storm.

Don't judge your brix by what your readings are now if the weather is stormy.

Brix is just a measurement of sugar. As long as brix is 12 or higher you won't get bugs. You can have a great looking plant at a 6, but you may have to deal with pests. If you have mites, aphids, thrips, whatever, your brix are below 12. Pests even group up. In certain brix ranges you get certain pests. My main use for brix is that its a trackable way to see if changes are working, or to see if the plant is crashing before the leaves show it. Its a photosynthesis tracker. But mostly its a bug spray.

Of course bro! That’s super interesting.

Monsoon sized - its a bit of a misconception unless you live in this bit the world. Monsoon actually just refers to wind not rain really, but when the wind changes it brings the rainy season in theory. It doesn’t people starve to death because their subsistence crops fail.

I’ll test again in two days? But - they’re now getting a way bigger dose of photons as we moved her a few days ago - that will also play a part, right?

Got any references regarding pests and Brix? If that were the case I think all outdoor grown plants would be free from pests as long as they have high enough Brix, above 12 even? I dont think this reasoning holds up to scrutiny when there's way more variables than Brix and it's concentration that mitigates and control pests? Brix concentration varies to certain degree throughout the day but more things is way important than just Brix like genetic expression and mutation that are controlled by a wide range of variables like Auxins, cytokinins and amino acids? Even in a big operation grow you have pest management and control in place?

I think learning to read the stems, leaf stems, leaf tips, leaf shape and size and shade and shine of leaves tells me more about my inputs and changes? I'm not convinced but each to their own! Cheers!

Everyone runs and knows whats best for how they grow. I'm not saying brix is better or not. Its just an indicator of how much sugar a plant is producing is all.

As for the insect thing just google " do certain pests prefer certain brix levels "

and you will quickly find this, so if you battle a certain insect, thats likely where your brix level is at.

So I just build my soil to be over 12. I gotta build soil anyway so why not? Really its just more calcium for the most part, and a bit more phosphorus. Maybe perlite too if your mix is soggy.

I’ve see a lot of people trying organic recently all suffering from Cal-Mag deficiency. Basically all but this and another SIP are coco/synthetic. The people who best survive it shrug and add liquid cal-mag and “oh well its not quite as organic anymore” But I do see ways to get it in there naturally. This soil wasn’t cooked or measured at all.

I bought a bunch of ingredients and mixed it all up on a plastic sheet with a dead body outline taped out on it 😆 but there was a lot of attention given to calcium and myco delivery. My magic volcano rocks for 80c a lb for example.

And perlite not for that but very much for layering and aeration. Method with the madness

Another squall just rolled in! Fierce winds and heavy rain. At this rate ai won't even need to top up her giant res!

Too easy!

Storm last night again and a real big one rolling in, whole southern half the country has a rain warning. Its mostly hitting the SE across the Gulf of Thailand which is bad news for & Co’s family but good for us - their rainy season starts as ours ends. Clouds are thickening up here though!

She’s braving it. Trooper that she is. I’m glad ai haven’t trained her at all. She can flutter around in the wind unencumbered by lines or weights.

It was for tie downs. Also useful for lifting The lads could get two hands on it.

I’m the only dipstick round here, thank you very much!

I need to go and buy some ping pong balls tomorrow - the feed pipe will take one or maybe need two to support the weight of a thin piece of bamboo to see the res level. Need holes to keep her fresh down below too.

And the endoscope to look in the res! Def doing that tomorrow. Today was a little busy.

She just got some sunset! All 3’ - 90cm of her. Get a move on!
