The Sanctuary Alternative Treatment Centers cultivation center in Rochester has been given permission by the state to begin growing medical marijuana.
The Rochester center is the first center in the state to receive a conditional registration certificate for cultivation of therapeutic cannabis, according to a press release from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The facility is part of the Therapeutic Cannabis Program run by DHHS, which will include four dispensary locations and three cultivation centers.
The Rochester center will be located inside a mill building on Spaulding Avenue that once housed the Spaulding Fibre Company, according to documents in the Rochester Planning Department. The Rochester facility planned is expected to supply cannabis for the Alternative Treatment Center in Area 4, which includes Carroll, Grafton and Coos counties. That area's proposed dispensary is in Plymouth.
Once Sanctuary has completed cultivating therapeutic cannabis, DHHS will inspect Sanctuary's dispensing location in Plymouth to determine if it is ready to begin operations. DHHS will then issue a registration certificate without conditions to Sanctuary ATC, permitting Sanctuary to begin dispensing therapeutic cannabis to qualifying patients and designated caregivers who have registered with Sanctuary.
"Sanctuary ATC is honored to be the first New Hampshire alternative treatment center awarded a provisional license to cultivate therapeutic cannabis for qualified New Hampshire patients," Josh Weaver, Sanctuary ATC's chief financial officer, wrote in an email. "We would like to thank the department of Health and Human Services and the city administrators of Rochester for all of their hard work and diligence in ensuring a successful program. We look forward to the opening of our Plymouth dispensary to service qualified patients in the first quarter of the year."
The proposed location is scheduled to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week with 10 employees occupying 16,000 square feet of the building.
Sanctuary's Plymouth dispensary is expected to begin operating this spring, according to the press release.
There is also a medical marijuana dispensary planned for Dover, which will be operated by Temescal Wellness.
Applications for potentially qualifying patients and designated caregivers, medical provider certification, and other information can be found on the Therapeutic Cannabis Program page on the DHHS website.
