Newer LED’s

So what is the hype on these thin panel LED’s? Do they have a fan for cooling? Spider Farmer is one that comes to mind. They look thinner til you see that dark mass item in top. That makes them as think as my pair. Samsung “bulbs” are mentioned in a few. Are they better? Just was wondering what to try if/when my pair fail. Thanks.

Thinner panels disperse heat into the air as the sink is more effective, so more humidity would be required, probably

On the @Atreum Lighting Hydra-1000, the driver and controller can be removed from the light panel and
mounted remotely- this makes the actual light just 3/32" thick, so you gain about 3" of height over
a light with an non-removable driver/controller mounted on top.
But, it's a 100 watt light, and may not be big enough for your space- it does a real good job in a 2'x2' though.

I have HLG Quantum boards, they are mounted on finned aluminum heat sinks, they come with no fans. Although I do have fans mounted above lights.

The coolest running LEDs are the strip light configuration. Also the most even coverage.
A Quantum board type LED will usually run much warmer and not as even of coverage.

Basically you just need to look for Samsung LM301B diodes for the white.
Either Cree XP-G3 Photored or Osram for the 660mm red.
And a good idea to get a few watts of 730mm.
As long as they have those diodes and Meanwell driver then just get whats on sale.

My 3x3 tent has warmed up with the use of a 2nd light. They have a built in fan and are quiet. Bloomspect 600 for $50-60 each. The girls like that extra light. I have an Infinity fan/ charcoal filter inside the tent at top. A lil crowded up at the top. Right now the lights are below level of fan/filter. I’d have to reconfigure tent if I changed to another light. Maybe fan outside and filter inside tent. Decisions decisions. Thanks for your responses.

In measuring and checking different lights for a YouTube video, I notices that the Meanwell drivers that many of these thin LED (quantum) boards need their drivers disconnected from the light and placed outside the tent or away from the grow.
It's hard but your grow should have a leaf surface temperature around 75F or 23.8C and hot drivers inside a tent are a problem

Computer cpu i buy a cheap heat sink my case/cpu may rise a few c/f.I get a good one and it will bring the temp down in the case/cpu.Its no different with led lights some have a nice heat sink some dont. Will it be cooler without the driver on yup. When i had blowers on my older lights the temps were higher on avg than the passive cooled ones i have now.
And if i go back to my hps 600watt summer growing was a no no in side without an AC.Happy with most leds on the market me as long as it does what it says on the tin with me growing in a smaller grow space.

Sorry that I'm showing a commercial light that I am marketing however it has pictures with a temperature measurement gun showing what I am saying. It's hard but your grow should have a leaf surface temperature around 75F or 23.8C and hot drivers inside a tent are a problem
Fans/air movement and good air exchange can remedy this and should be included in any grow tent/room anyways... :hookah:

My two lamps take my 3x3x6’ tent to 75 degrees. Was 70 this am when I went to water them. Fans run all the time. Read a couple of seasons ago of use of a small fan to stir the plants and to help them grow stronger. Didn’t believe. Now I know. Back when I didn’t believe everything I read here. Still learning at 62.
