Newbie: Veg stage foliage, when and what to cut, please help

I recently joined 420 and have received so much feedback and help. I have a couple of plants in veg stage. These plants are being grown on a low budget. This is typical “Reggie” Mexican Brick weed.

I have no idea when/where/what to cut on my plant. I have attached plenty pictures in hopes of getting some help. I’m not sure of the time table, but these plants are a couple of months old.

Did I wait too long or am I still good to cut them?

Thanks in advance guys!!

PS: I will be moving both plants to bigger vessels soon.

Hi @Lee1774 They both look topped properly and growing well. Give time for new tops to grow a ways then top those new again if you want! As long as they are in veg, it's never too late to top or supercrop or LST, it will just take time for those things to repair themselves with the new growth you are looking to accomplish.

You can turn those over and gently tap them out of their pots to look at the roots if you want. Good indicator how much root mass you have pooling up on the bottom of the pot.

Looking very nice, congrats! CHeers mate, GL! :yahoo:

Thanks bro but I’m more concerned with the “big fan leaves”. I was told by some that the big fan leaves should be cut so the plant concentrates more on the nodes etc... I have already topped the bigger plant a week ago but I’m concerned about the large fan leaves.

Boo is right - those big leaves are not only solar panels - they are sugar factories and nutrient warehouses also. The only time that they need to be removed is after the plant has had to pull so much out of them that they are faded and pose a possible risk of hosting pests or disease.

Your yield will probably be decreased if the plant has to spend its energy growing leaves to replace the ones that you have removed.

I second @Pbass Looks like a successful topping. Looking great! Lst would be a great option and you can start when ever you want. Just make sure to support the base in the opposite direction as your bend

this is from my current journal. Hope it helps! Good luck!!

Good afternoon people. I hope all is well with your respective grows.

things are moving smoothly over here. I have started training the mku/bd..... we still need to come up with a official name for it Lol.

so my reasoning for journals is because when I was first starting they me confidence to get started , to experiment, and to have fun. I always have the novice growers in mind and try to create journals that will help a new grower. So even though most of you are experienced let’s do this tutorial style.

step one : secure the stem pulling it slightly the opposite direction of which you wish to bend the top of the plant. I used a binder clip and a garden tie

step two:

bend the top of the plant the opposite direction of the tie securing the stem. For this I used garden staples but have used anything from more wire ties or coat hangers cut down and bent to form a hook

Thanks guys, I wish I checked on your responses earlier. I made a huge mistake following a YouTube video. I used some “thin soft duct tape”. I made a huge mistake and now 2 of my plant leaves are torn on my plant. I will NEVER make that mistake again. Maybe I will use a coat hanger and some wire ties
