The Clifton Park Town Board will hear Monday from a company that wants to open a medical marijuana dispensary. A representative from North Country Roots of Plattsburgh is expected to discuss his plans just after the start of the 7 p.m. meeting in Town Hall, according to the meeting agenda posted online.
North Country Roots is applying to New York for a license to sell medical marijuana, with a focus on the upstate market. Story from last week.
In the coming months, the state will select five operators to grow and sell medical marijuana to eligible patients at four dispensaries each for a total of 20 statewide. The Plattsburgh company would propose Clifton Park as one of its four locations. The company has stated it would not open a dispensary within 1,000 feet of schools or places of worship. New York's program would allow specially trained doctors to prescribe marijuana only for eligible medical conditions, including cancer, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS, A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's disease), Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, neuropathies, spinal cord injuries and inflammatory bowel disease. The list could be widened in the future to include other debilitating disorders.
